What Hotels to Stay at When Visiting Taroko National Park

In Taiwan’s east, Taroko National Park is one of the island’s most beautiful destinations. Stunning coastal roads and the awe-inspiring marble cliffs of Taroko Gorge a visit here may well be the highlight of any trip to Taiwan. But, when you visit here, you need to make a decision. You’re not going to see it all in one day, so you’re going to need to find accommodation. Do you stay in the park itself? Or nearby Hualien City? Both have great options for a comfortable night’s sleep, but it really depends on your itinerary and what you’re in the market for. Staying in Taroko

If you choose to stay within Taroko National Park itself is perfect if you want all that nature and beauty right on your doorstep and it’s ideal if you intend to hike and have an early start planned. It’s also great if you’re at the end of a hike and want to crash immediately without having to travel out of the park to Hualien. However, there are also downsides to staying in Taroko, as there are less options and less flexible prices, as well as nothing to do at night time other than stay in your hotel. Staying in Hualien City

Staying in the city will give you a whole heap of more options at more varied prices. You’ll also have much more to do after dark, with bars, night markets and the like across the city open until the early hours. Of course, there are cons to staying in the city rather than the park. Hotels in Taroko

– Silks Place Taroko (太魯閣晶英酒店)

The only five-start hotel within Taroko National Park. Elegant, stylish and decorated in a “Modern Chinese” style, a stay here will make your visit to Taroko even more memorable. With fantastic rooms that offer views of Taroko Gorge, high-class dining, indoor and outdoor pools, a yoga studio and a spa, the hotel also offers half- and full-day tours of Taroko Gorge. Located in the middle of Taroko, you can reach the Baiyang hiking trail (白楊步道) by foot in 15 minutes, while other popular trails such as the Zhuilu Old Trail (錐麓古道) and Swallow Grotto Trail (燕子口) are a 20-minute drive away.

– Tienhsiang Youth Activity Center (救國團天祥青年活動中心)

Budget-friendly lodgings popular with hikers, Tienhsiang Youth Activity Center has room for up to 220 guests, as well as a 240-seat restaurant and a coffee shop. – Taroko Liiko Hotel (立閣人文旅店)

34 rooms and the option to face the Liwu Stream (立霧溪) and Qingshui Cliffs (清水斷崖), Taroko Liiko Hotel is another quality choice for those wishing to stay within the national park. Right by the park’s entrance and just a short hop from Xincheng Railway Station (新城火車站), this is also an incredibly convenient place to stay. Rooms sleep up to four people, while the hotel has a buffet restaurant and a wonderful 300-ping garden area perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring Taroko. If you are planning a hiking trip, start at the Shakadang Trail (砂卡噹步道) or the Eternal Spring Shrine Trail (長春祠), which are both around a ten-to-15-minute drive from the hotel.

– Lakeshore Hotel Hualien Taroko 煙波花蓮太魯閣

Another hotel close to the park’s entrance, Lakeshore Hotel is designed with a mountain-ocean concept. There are twin and family rooms available, with both breakfast and half-board options, at Lakeshore guests can enjoy the spa and swimming pool and enjoy a Chinese cuisine dinner at Lento Restaurant. Beside the trails in Taroko, make sure to check out Qingshui Cliffs which are around 15 minutes by car from Lakeshore Taroko.

Hotels in Hualien City
