Foodies take note: Michelin have announced their 2020 Bib Gourmand selections for Taipei and Taichung ahead of the full Taipei and Taichung Michelin Guide’s release on August 24. 31 restaurants and 23 street food stalls in Taipei have been included, along with 21 venues from Taichung, with the city in central Taiwan being included in the guide for the very first time. Bib Gourmand focuses on affordable, quality food, with every restaurant/stall included capable of offering a high-standard three-course meal for less than NT$1,000 (drinks excluded). Seven of the 54 Taipei venues are first-time entries, including Wanhua district’s Tainan cuisine eatery Yijiazi, and North Indian-style restaurant Taj. Interestingly, ten of the 21 eateries highlighted in Taichung actually specialize in Taipei-style fair, such as the deep-fried pork ribs at Chin Chih Yuan, and the claypot chicken at Dong Shan Zhan. Comfort food is also a big part of the Bib Gourmand selections, with both cities having the light shone on places with dishes that warm your stomach. Taichung’s Tai Ke Meat Congee is a notable inclusion, as are Shanghainese noodle soup peddlers No Name Noodles. The full list of restaurants included in this year’s Michelin Guide, including those receiving Michelin Stars, will be announced on August 24, with the announcement and accompanying press conference being livestreamed on Facebook and also Michelin Guide’s official Asia-specific YouTube channel at 1pm Taiwan time.
